First Aid audio centre

Now you can carry life-saving advice with you wherever you go, thanks to our first aid audio centre.

Just download on to your iPod or any MP3 player the seven small audio files below to make sure you have the  latest advice at your fingertips.

The idea came from Hove paramedic Steve Rutland who, thinking to himself while out jogging, realised that if somebody were to collapse in front of him he would know exactly what to do to even though he was carrying no equipment. He then thought that he might be able to help other people to be more effective in an emergency if they could have ready access to good advice at any time. So the idea of downloadable advice was born.

All the advice provided is up to date and complies with Resuscitation Council guidelines. Everyone hopes that they are never confronted with these situations, but it is far better to be prepared. And the chances are the victim will be somebody close to you.

A few points to bear in mind:

• These audio files are not meant to be a substitute for a first aid course - if you can spare the time take a course.
  
• Once you have the files on your player listen to them from time to time. This will bring two benefits: you will be more likely to find them quickly in an emergency if you have been accessing them regularly, and you will keep yourself refreshed on what to do in an emergency.
• If you dial 999 take instructions from the ambulance call-taker. They will be able to coach you in real time which is preferable.
• The files are copyright but please feel free to distribute them, in the original format, to as many people as possible.
