Rugby tackle a pain in the neck

A young boy was flown to hospital yesterday (Sunday) following a heavy-duty sporting collision in Braintree.

The ambulance service was called to the rugby Club in Beckers Green Road at about 2.25pm, and a rapid response vehicle, a crew and the air ambulance were dispatched.

An ambulance spokeswoman said: "The 10-year-old patient was playing rugby and was involved in a tackle. St John's Ambulance personell were on scene and were able to give excellent care to the boy before our arrival.

"He complained of neck and back pain, and so as a precautionary measure - and because of the logistics of where the incident happened - the air ambulance was asked to attend and after the patient was stabilised, he was flown to Colchester Hospital for further care."
