Unsung heroes get award
Luton paramedics have made a special visit to Luton Airport to present a team of unsung heroes an award for their outstanding contribution to patient care within the community.
The passenger service assistants based at the airport have all been trained by the Trust in the use of an AED and basic life support. And over the last four years they have successfully resuscitated eight people who have collapsed following a suspected heart attack.
One of the patients Michael Humbling, surprised the team by attending this special event with his wife. Michael collapsed last November whilst checking in at the arrivals desk.
He said he was very pleased to present the team who saved his life with a certificate of commendation on behalf of the Trust: “I am privileged to be here today and meet up with the team who saved my life, what more can I say?”
Beds and Herts locality chief operating officer Rob Ashford, who presented the award said: "This dedicated team have demonstrated excellent patient care and have successfully resuscitated eight members of the public.
“They all thoroughly deserve to be recognised for their actions. It was an honour to present them with an award on behalf of the Trust."
The picture shows PSAs Kerri Skingle and Antonella Dunn, Michael, terminal duty officer Kirstien Howard, and Luton paramedic Andy Smith.
